Educational Model of Addiction and Recovery Implications

According to the educational model, the lack of accurate information about the dangers of addictive substances and activities causes addiction. Because people do not fully understand these dangers, they make poor and uninformed decisions. This leads to the subsequent development of an addiction.

Recovery consists of gaining complete and accurate information. The model assumes that once people have accurate information it will lead them to make rational decisions and healthier choices.

Questions for personal reflection from educational model: Wouldn't it be useful to learn about all the damage caused by my addiction? Once I accurately understand these dangers, wouldn't I be more motivated to make healthier, more rational decisions?
