I'm a step-parent to a 13 year old boy who presents with Antisocial Personality Disorder. While I understand that this cannot be diagnosed below the age of 18, this child was diagnosed at two years old with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. His mother and biological father have let him know they never wanted him. His biological father has never been in his life, his mother married before he was born, and the only father he's known is not his biological parent.
His mother has neglected and verbally abused him his whole life. Several years ago, her neglect spiraled until she stopped feeding her children. Child Protective Services opened a case against her. She took the children to Mexico and abandoned them with a relative. She's an alcoholic, promiscuous, and in a biker gang.
This boy further repeatedly tells us how much he hates and has always hated his siblings and he tells his siblings, too, because they took away his mother's attention. He blames his siblings for his mother finally leaving the family over a year ago.
He is becoming more aggressive, lies, steals, has harmed his siblings, my children and our dog. He states that every one of us needs counseling while he is just fine.
He has been in counseling but was resistant and uncooperative. We are searching for a new counselor as we have moved to a more positive community.
I am absolutely terrified of this boy, for myself, his father and the other children in our household. I have considered that he may have APD and recently researched same. It is my understanding that symptoms may present in childhood though a diagnosis cannot be made until 18.
What can I do????!!!!!
